About the IMRF Awards

About the IMRF Awards

The International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) Awards aim to recognise some of the exceptional individuals and organisations around the world that make maritime search and rescue (SAR) possible.

The IMRF Awards (formerly known as the H.E.R.O. Awards) are now in their third year and have proved a great success, raising awareness of the excellent work done by those involved in the maritime SAR community, including highlighting innovative new SAR products and technologies.

We have four categories one can make a nomination in:

minilogoimrf3 Individual Award   - for outstanding individual contribution to a maritime SAR operation;
minilogoimrf3 Team Award – for outstanding team contribution to a maritime SAR operation;
minilogoimrf3 Innovation & Technology Award - for innovation and technology in maritime search and rescue;
minilogoimrf3 Lifetime Achievement Award – for outstanding contribution to maritime search and rescue ‘The Vladimir Maksimov Award'.

This year's submission of nominations is closed!

This year’s Awards Dinner will be hosted by the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet) (new window) , at their new training centre, RS Noatun (new window) in Horten, Norway on Thursday, 8 November 2018 .

Representatives from SAR organisations around the world will be in attendance, and we will be announcing the winner in each category then.

More Nominations for the IMRF Awards

IMRF Awards RGB 2018Every day maritime SAR professionals go above and beyond the expected to save lives at sea, and the IMRF Awards offer a valuable opportunity to recognise them.

Last year’s winners ranged from a first mate on a dry bulk tanker, to a migrant aid organisation operating in the Mediterranean Sea, a team from an established SAR organisation working to increase and disseminate knowledge in developing countries and the two founders of a relatively young, but now highly respected SAR organisation.

Theresa Crossley, CEO IMRF adds: “Maritime SAR happens all around the world at all hours of the day and night in all kinds of conditions, so if you know of an individual or a team who deserve recognition for their exceptional service, expert skills or innovation please do nominate them now, it’s so easy using the form on our website and gives them well deserved international recognition.

The IMRF is calling for entries in four IMRF Awards 2018 categories:

•   The IMRF Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to a Maritime SAR Operation;
The IMRF Award for Outstanding Team Contribution to a Maritime SAR Operation;
Innovation and Technology in Maritime Search and Rescue (to recognize technological innovations that improve maritime SAR locally and globally for the rescuer and/or for those being rescued);
The IMRF Vladimir Maksimov Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Maritime SAR Sector.

The IMRF Awards also offer an opportunity to showcase new SAR products, technologies and techniques that could help improve SAR operations and save more lives.

The IMRF was originally founded in 1924 to discuss every technical aspect relating to maritime search and rescue, and right from the start it brought together SAR teams from around the world to share best practice and techniques. Today the IMRF and its members are still working to increase knowledge and to highlight the best global resources for saving lives at sea.

This year’s IMRF Awards ceremony and dinner will be hosted by the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (RS) at their new high-tech training centre, RS Noatun near Horten in Norway, following the IMRF’s annual European Regional Meeting.

There will also be an IMRF Local Hero Award 2018, which will be presented to an exceptional local SAR individual nominated by the event’s hosts, the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue.
